Motion Graphics – Learning

I have been learning motion graphics. I have in the past used Photoshop to animate web banners and alike but wanted to delve in to After Effects to broaden my skills. Below are the examples of my progression which will be added to as I go, latest first.

So the down time After Effects mission today, was to see if I could animate a static image using the puppet pins! I took a photograph, ran it through live trace in illustrator, to get this quick stylised skater.

Then using a combination of the puppet position, starch and advanced pin tools I did my best to map out the skeletal joints. As you can probably tell, this is harder than it sounds!

Then using the speed graphs to try and match the floor with the guys movement was also pretty tricky.

Overall through a great learning experience, shame he looks like he’s broken his ankle though!

Please excuse the, ahem, illustration style, if we can call it that! I quite like him but I needed to be quick with the illustration so I could jump in to the animating.

First thing I learnt from this, is don’t rush your illustration! With hindsight, a bit more thought and detail, I would have been able to encompass some proper expression.

For a few hours work though, I have learnt about adding sound, matching movement to sound, linking objects to move together and sped up my tasks.

Apologies for the mildly masked swears, I just liked the clip!

I think people movement is up next… stand by for my next weird offering!

So continuing my learning of After Effects. I present my side scrolling ScoobyDoo esque animation of my bug that I Illustrated in the last video. Really enjoyed making this, and feeling more comfortable in the software already.

Today I have mostly been playing with after effects!
